RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT PROGRAMS Northwood Children's Services Main and West Campuses are 24-hour treatment facilities. Within an assigned team of 10-12 students - grouped according to treatment needs, diagnosis, and age - children learn to live with others in a family-like atmosphere. Services A comprehensive Development Plan is prepared for each student by the team supervisor, counselors, parents, teachers, nurse, therapist, and referring agency staff. The plan outlines specific treatment goals that are scored and evaluated on a daily basis using a Life Skills Model. Team supervisors oversee the Developmental Plans of each student and help to assure a structured, consistent, and nurturing living environment. Referral Process A child must be between 5 and 17 years old and have a clinical diagnosis from Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV). Inquires by a mental health professional, county social worker, hospital, child care provider, or parents and welcome. Staff Staff includes counselors, therapists, a chaplain, recreational directors, and administrative and support personnel. Also, special education teachers, occupational therapists, speech clinicians, psychologists, physicians, and nurses complement the treatment staff. Volunteers from the community enhance the staff, serving as tutors, mentors, and foster grandparents. A team of professionals work with the child and their family to target specific goal areas, focus on solutions, and build upon strengths already present in the family system. Services An individualized treatment plan is developed - with help by a multi-disciplinary team - by the child and their family. The team includes mental health professionals, practitioners, and educational staff. The family and child are both seen as - and are expected to be - members of the treatment team. Goals from the individualized treatment plan are designed to be achieved within the short-term program, usually three to six months. Children receive individual, group, and family therapy. Additionally, in-home behavioral services are provided. The comprehensive intervention targets symptom reduction across educational, behavioral, and emotional areas.
